Two X-Ray Plateaus of Gamma-Ray Bursts: Energy Injection from Nascent Magnetars with an Evolving Magnetic Inclination Angle

چکیده

Abstract As the central engine of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs), a nascent magnetar can release its rotational energy by magnetic dipole radiation. This is injected into outflow GRB jet. With rapid evolution inclination angle, perpendicular component magnetar’s surface field decreases rapidly. The loss rate characterized two different timescales. peculiar two-stage injection model will affect shape X-ray afterglow light curve. It shown that new shallow decay phase emerge following initial phase. result, there could be plateaus in effects various physical parameters on curves are studied detail. found observed afterglows 161217A and 190114A, both having curve, well fitted our framework.

Millisecond Proto-Magnetars & Gamma Ray Bursts

— In the seconds after core collapse and explosion, a thermal neutrinodriven wind emerges from the cooling, deleptonizing newly-born neutron star. If the neutron star has a large-scale magnetar-strength surface magnetic field and millisecond rotation period, then the wind is driven primarily by magneto-centrifugal slinging, and only secondarily by neutrino interactions. The strong magnetic fiel...

Gamma-ray bursts from X-ray binaries

A weakly magnetized (∼ 107G) neutron star, slowly spun up by accretion in an X-ray binary, crosses the instability boundary for r-mode instability at P=1–2 msec. The amplitude of the oscillation, which initially increases only at the spinup time scale, is secularly unstable due to the negative temperature dependence of the viscosity in neutron star matter, and diverges after a few hundred years...

X-Ray Afterglows from Gamma-Ray Bursts

We consider possible interpretations of the recently detected X-ray afterglow from the gamma-ray burst source GRB 970228. Cosmological and Galactic models of gamma-ray bursts predict different flux and spectral evolution of X-ray afterglows. We show that models based on adiabatic expansion of relativistic forward shocks require very efficient particle energization or post-burst re-acceleration ...

X-ray Lines From Gamma-ray Bursts

X-ray lines have been recently detected in the afterglows of a few gamma-ray bursts. We derive constraints on the physical conditions in the line-emitting gas, using as an example the multiple Kα lines detected by Reeves et al. (2002) in GRB 011211. We argue that models previously discussed in the literature require either a very extreme geometry or too much mass in the line-emitting region. We...

X-Ray Emission of Gamma-Ray Bursts

X-ray emission can provide a crucial diagnostic of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). We calculate the X-ray and gamma-ray spectra of impulsive acceleration episodes related to GRB pulses. We use the synchrotron shock model (SSM) as a basis of our calculations. We show that the current data on soft-to-hard emission ratios of GRB pulse emission are in agreement with the SSM. In particular, GRB pulse emiss...
